Rental Finishes: Temporary Wallpaper

In the military, we are often faced with moves to homes that are…….a little less than desirable.  It’s our goal here at Based in Design to take those types of homes from drab to fab with a few finishing touches that are accessible to the homeowner or renter.

One of our favorite items to work with is removable wallpaper.  It’s a fabulous addition that is super easy to apply, sometimes paintable, and can provide a quick accent wall to any area of your home that is lacking a bit of oomph.

We wanted to introduce you to a company we work with hand in hand to finish projects.  Graham & Brown began in 1946, post war, when there was an extreme shortage of paper.  The best part (we think), is that they started with metallic paper!  Could it get any more exciting?

Their production of wallpaper that was easy to hang up and remove began as early as the late 1990s, even though we see it as revolutionary today, it’s a relatively aged process in the industry.

Graham & Brown sent out a couple samples so that we could personally see and touch the product as well as go a bit more in depth about why this is such a fun product for our transitional military or rental homes.

So, without further ado, here are three ways to showcase this wonderful product in your home.

1 : Drab Base (or Rental) Housing Walls!

We all know of the awful Pinnacle Beige that looms around some base housing options.  Why not combat the beige life with a pop of color, or an even better neutral than what you’re working with?  Here are a couple examples of using removable wallpaper, as well as a paintable wallpaper similar to the one we featured yesterday on our Instagram!

2 : Create a Focal Point or Art

Large art tends to break the bank.  Graham & Brown beats the price of ordinary artwork with some stunning options for wall murals.  This is perfect for even the most temporary of housing, think TLF or a base hotel room!  These can be easily installed and make even the most tedious of spaces feel a bit more cozy and home-like.

3: Pique Curiosity with Ceilings

Why not go out on a limb and try something completely new?  Can’t paint the walls, but want your space to feel lofty?  Add a punch of color or texture to the ceiling to draw eyes upwards.  We especially love this when paired with sparse, white walls.
